In this interview, courtesy of Sony Music, she talks about her creative process and what inspires her. brown boots Explain the meaning behind the album title? The meaning is very layered. It means having bionic body parts, in particular the vocal cords. There's a little songbird in there that's singing through metal pipes and there happens to be horns and a speakerphone. It's a very cool and complicated drawing by D*Face, one of my favourite graffiti artists. And then you have Bionic coming from the notion of just being highly electronically charged and excited for the brown boots future. It's also the way I see women. We are superhuman in so many ways. We give birth, we give life, we do it all, and I mean we wear many different hats. We work at the same time, we raise our families, we hold down our forts and becoming a new mum since then has also contributed to the Bionic meaning of the album. You co-wrote a bunch of tracks on this album. What is your creative process like? brown boots My creative process is pretty complicated. I'm a perfectionist and over-achiever and you know it's presented in many different ways for me. And then there is another side of it that comes out very empowered, wanting to empower other women to tell stories about my past, being aggressive, coming out of it, and the light at the end of the tunnel as far as other messages are concerned. And on this record, I got to venture into Miu shoes feeling more comfortable with my initial pop roots of a decade ago and make a really fun pop record, but in a sophisticated and grown way. Miu shoes It's a really fun ride and my creative process starts usually with a lot of mood boards that I create, constantly ripping out of magazines and having a zillion post-its everywhere. I end up making these huge collages with tacks and poster boards and I show them to the producers saying, "this is what I'm going for. This is the look. Let's make the audio to this look." With every record, I've reinvented myself each and every time and I get inspired during the touring Miu shoes cycle of the previous record for what the next one's going to be. I knew at a young age that I wanted to make an inspirational record paying tribute Christian louboutin flats to the soul, blues and jazz artistes and musicians that inspired me at a young age. How is this album different from your past three studio albums? It's obvious when you see the cover, that it goes more in a futuristic direction. When you listen to the music, you'll see that everything has a different flavour and feel and you can't really define the album with one song. It's very versatile and it goes through its whole journey of a storyline, fun and vulnerable moments. It reminds me emotionally of all the places I go, in a very recovered and peaceful, fun place.
